This week we are pleased to announce Jariel Ramos, a Senior at Pius XI Catholic High School, as our Superhero of the Week!
Jariel is a highly decorated high schooler committed to making a difference. He remains deeply involved in politics and is a fierce advocate for mental health awareness and environmental protections. His strong work ethic and dedication to his studies are balanced with his commitment to political activism. His tough upbringing, mental health struggles, and first-hand experiences facing injustice have instilled Jariel with a strong sense of empathy and compassion for others. Even from a young age, Jariel knew the importance of actively contributing to society and standing up for what you believe in.
Acting as president of REDgen, a mental health advocacy group within Pius High, Jariel led the organization of his school's first Mental Health Assembly last year. In recognition of the impactful work done through REDgen, Spectrum News highlighted the team for Mental Health Awareness Month last May, featuring an interview starring Jariel himself!
Working alongside ACE (Action for the Climate Emergency), Jariel has become a major player in the fight for the planet. Notably, he revived his school's ACE chapter, organized protests at the capital, and lobbied congress members and state legislatures. He has also spoken with Governor Evers and was in the group that met with President Biden during his last visit to Milwaukee. Jariel was recognized for his dedication at the 2023 Green & Healthy Schools Conference where he was awarded the "Green Student of the Year."
Recently promoted to the national ACE Youth Advisory Board, Jariel’s activism and call to action extends beyond his local community. A natural leader, he inspires others to speak out for the betterment of every individual. Jariel looks forward to continuing his activism and advocacy efforts into college and beyond. He hopes to pursue a career in politics where he plans to make a meaningful impact on the world.
Join us in celebrating Jariel as our Superhero of the Week! You can hear his story on The Varsity Blitz show this Saturday at 10:00 am on The Big 920 and your iHeart radio app!
