CURRENT ELECTRIC INSTALLING SOLAR PANELS TO POWER PEWAUKEE CITY HALL.
City projected to save more than $1,300,000 over 30 years while achieving sustainability goals.
Wauwatosa, Wis., April 18, 2024 - Current Electric is contracted to install a solar array this spring that will virtually eliminate electric bills for Pewaukee City Hall taking a significant step towards achieving City sustainability goals. The ground-based collection of solar panels will be installed in a field adjacent to City Hall. Over 30% of the project cost is covered by the Investment Tax Credit provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and the Focus on Energy Business Customer PV Incentive.
“The City is excited to be moving forward and working with Current Electric on this solar project for City Hall,” comments Nick Fuchs, Planner & Community Development Director, City of Pewaukee. “City staff and the Common Council discussed the use of ARPA funds in detail and wanted to utilize these funds for projects that would benefit the entire community and all residents of Pewaukee. Through those discussions, the installation of solar and the long-term cost-saving impacts it would have for the City rose to the top of the list as a worthwhile and city-wide beneficial project.”
“Sustainability is important to the City and in 2020 the Propelling Pewaukee Sustainability Plan was completed with the assistance of UW-Milwaukee and the Waukesha County and Pewaukee Green Team,” continues Fuchs. “Not surprisingly, one of the recommendations from that plan was the installation of solar arrays at city-owned facilities. We think that is one of the more impactful recommendations of the plan, so it’s great to see it being implemented, and hope to see solar arrays at other City buildings in the future.”
“This is a fantastic investment for Pewaukee,” notes Chuck Smith, President of Current Electric.”The system will pay for itself in just over a decade and will generate enough power to lower the WE Energy bill to almost zero. Pewaukee is my hometown so I love doing the right thing for the community. It’s an investment that protects taxpayers against the rising cost of electricity and protects the environment at the same time.”
