Press Release
Pewaukee’s City Hall Solar Project Prove to be a Success in Meeting Sustainability Goal
Solar array was installed in November and the cost savings for Pewaukee residents has begun!
PEWAUKEE, Wis., (April 23, 2025) – Wauwatosa-based Current Electric was contracted by Pewaukee’s City Hall to install a solar array that included 588 410-watt bifacial modules, four 60kw inverters and one 480/208 step-down transformer. The solar panels were installed in a field behind City Hall, and are expected to offset 89% of the electricity used throughout the facility. Over 30% of the project cost was covered by the Investment Tax Credit provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and another 4% by Focus on Energy Business Customer PV Incentive.
“We are working with quite a few municipalities that want to invest in sustainability initiatives while also cutting costs, and solar is a perfect investment to achieve those goals,” said Chuck Smith, President of Current Electric. “A system of this magnitude will pay for itself in about 6-12 years and will generate enough power to lower utility bills to almost zero. In the long term, taxpayers will be protected from the rising cost of electricity and the environment will also be protected for future generations. It’s a win-win for municipalities, businesses and residents.”
Installation of a solar project of this size can take approximately 20-30 days. The projected energy production for this array is 326,493kwh per year, with the most production being in May (approximately 38,000kwh) and the least being in December (16,000kwh.) Residents will see a projected savings of $28,300 in the first year, and a projected savings of approximately $1,346,700 over 30-years.
“Sustainability has been a focus for the city, and in the 2020 Propelling Pewaukee Sustainability Plan, the installation of solar panels was one of the top recommendations,” said Nick Fuchs, Director of Community Development, City of Pewaukee. “Current Electric understood our goals and budget, and helped guide the city through the process to make this project possible. They also provided an app (www.soirenview.com) so the residents can view the system data in real time.”
